 We are now back in West Lancashire for winter and will be open in the villages along the canal, Burscough, Parbold, Halsall, etc. We are not sure of where and when yet so please keep a eye on the website. 

We are open on Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd March from 11-4 at Burscough Wharf, though we are only able to do towpath sales, bring yarn out to you. 

Places we've been in the past

The plan for opening for The Wool Boat, 2nd to 8th March 2020.

The plan for this week, as the forecast is for less wind we should be able to get off our mooring. So here goes, Wednesday the 4th open at Burscough Wharf from 11 to 4. Then back to near the Slipway on Thursday the 5th and Sunday the 8th open 1 - 4.

  We're staying moored alongside the carpark of The Slipway on Crabtree Lane near Burscough, L40 0RN. Sunday the 23rd of Feb from 1-4. The canal bridge at the Slipway is still being repaired so at the moment is not crossable. Access to us and the pub is from Higgins Lane.

The plan for the Wool Boat opening this week is to be back at The Slipway on Crabtree Lane for the knit and natter on Thursday the 6th of February open from 1-3 then back to Burscough Wharf for a full weekends opening on Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th of February open from 11-3. The plan as always depends of course on if the weather is fit to boat!

We plan, providing the weather id fit to boat, to be outside The Slipway pub on Crabtree Lane near Burscough on Thursday the 30th of Jan and then back at Burscough Wharf on Sunday the 2nd of February 2020. 

We will be back at Burscough Wharf on Wednesday the 22nd of January open from 11-3 and then back at The Slipway pub at Crabtree Lane near Burscough for the knit and natter on Thursday the 23rd, open from 1-3.

We are open near the Slipway pub on Crabtree Lane near Burscough from 1-3 on Thursday the 12th, and from 11-3 on Friday the 13th and Sunday the 15th of December. 

We're open in Halsall near the Saracens Head pub on Summerwood Lane on Saturday the 30th of November, and Sunday the 1st of December open from 10-3.

 We where open at Burscough Wharf on Sunday the 17th of November from 10 - 3

We will be open near The Slipway pub on Crabtree Lane near Burscough (L40 0RN) on Thursday and Friday the 14th and 15th of November, open from 10-3. 

 We where open at Abram between Wigan and Leigh this weekend, the 2nd and 3rd of November.   

    We where back in Rudheath near Northwich and open on Friday the 18th and Sunday the 20th of September.  

  Wheelock between Sandbach and Crewe on Sunday the 8th of September.

   Rode Heath near Alsager on Tuesday the 3rd of September from 1-4

We where back at Westport Lake near Stoke on Trent on Sunday the 25th and Bank holiday Monday the 26th of August 2019. 

We where open in Barlaston on the 15th and 16th of August 2019 moored near the Plume of Feathers pub.

Over the weekend, of the 10th and 11th of August we had been in Stone, in Staffordshire, moored on the Trent and Mersey canal just along the towpath from the M and S food hall. 

On July the 27th and 28 we where open in Alrewas between Burton and Lichfield. 

This weekend, the 13th and 14th of July we are moored and open at Branston near Burton on Trent. 

           We are open at West port Lake near Tunstall in Stoke on Trent on Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th of June.

        Open in Wheelock, near Sandbach Sunday the 26th and Monday the 27th of May  

           Open in Abram near Wigan on Friday and Saturday the 10th and 11th of May

 We are back in Parbold this weekend, open from 10 -1 on Saturday the 20th and 10-4 on Sunday the 21st 

Once again we plan to be back outside the Farmers Arms for the Knit and Natter on Thursday afternoon the 9th open 1-3ish.

This weekend we have entered into the spirit of the 1st Burscough Scarecrow festival and Col has made a scarecrow which has one of his old stripy jumpers on. Come and see it and have a look at some great yarn on Saturday the 14.7.18 and Sunday the 15th of July. We will be open 9-4 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday somewhere in the centre of the Village near Burscough Wharf.

   We've returned from our summer cruise around the 4 counties canal ring.

         OPENING HOURS at the moment are normally 10-4 to be assured of us being there and not cruised off or gone to the pub :-)

This week's planned opening places and times for The Wool Boat.

We are open in Rode Heath near Alsager in Cheshire this weekend 15th and 16th of July and plan to be at Westport Lake near Stoke on Trent next weekend.

On the Wool Boat

We've yarn and wool, double knitting 4 ply, chunky and cotton, we got colours red and blue, hues of yellows and greens blacks whites creams, fluorescents and twinkles, yarn for socks from Germany, lovely soft baby Llama from Peru yarn from Lazy Kate's spinning wheel, Lancashire yarn from sheep in Silverdale, Yarns from Brett's, Woolly knits Designer yarns West Yorkshire spinners, needles and notions, patterns and buttons wooden plastic big and small and toggles anor'al, we've gloves hats jumpers and cowls blankets for babies scarves for your neck, fingerless mittens for the gardening calendars Christmas cards, cards for all occasions French knitters and pom pom makers stitch holders, some dish cloth cotton………….. all on a nice and cosy narrow boat.  


When we moor in Parbold we normally are moored near the Windmill art Gallery and the Yours is the earth café

  We where open in Rishton East Lancashire over the weekend of 24th and 25th of September 2016

            Gargrave in Yorkshire on the weekend of

                               13th and 14th of August 

We didn't move far in the week from 1st to 5th of August,  7 locks, a mile long tunnel from Barrowford to Foulridge, near Colne. We are moored ready to be open near Café Cargo for the weekend, conformation when we get there.

If you fancy a bit more of a walk around this area of Pendle, some suggestions are here on visit Pendle or for extra retail therapy we're not that far from Boundary Mill at Colne.

The Wool Boat next returns to Parbold  quite often..

This was on Feb 7th 2016.

Hi All a pleasant morning here at Burscough Wharf and open until 4 today.

We are moored on the Mill Lane car park side of the canal where you are more likley to get a parking place than on the Wharf car park, and only a few yards until you are aboard the worlds only floating wool and yarn shop:-).

If you do come and visit us why not combine your trip with a pop into the building behind us in this picture to the Burscough Chandlery for your boating needs, which is also the base for the H and R Ainscough's Barge Restoration Project which has a fascinating display of pictures and memories from the H and R Ainscoughs corn mill and the boats that they used to use.
