We found 2 Knits and a Purl in Alfreton Market when we had a wander around Alfreton wen we where there for the Southport F C away game earlier on in the year.
Within the market hall at Alfreton in Derbyshire can be found this lovely wool stall. Run by a couple, Chris and Ian, the stall sells mainly acrylic yarns but is still we worth a visit. Colin Wareing 4.5.2022

A modern boatman’s gansey worn by Richard who seems to like his new gansey.
I knitted this gansey to my own pattern.
I call it a modern boatman’s gansey as it is knitted in a modern style that while it is based on the basic principles of a gansey it is knitted on two needles and then the pieces are sewn together. Traditionally Ganseys where knitted in the round on a set of 5 needles.
At the moment I have some space in my order book so if you would like a gansey knitting please feel free to get in touch.

Striped mittens for a younger person, how cute are these?
Recently finished and now with their new owner, a pair of Striped mittens for a young lad.
Mittens seem to be better for young people as there is not the faff of getting little fingers into gloves.
The striped colours are shades of maroon, green, yellow and cream, though can be reproduced in a wide range of colour combinations.
Mitts hand knitted by Carole Wareing of “Colour by Carole”
Carole has just finished this babies Jacket and hat set. It is now available from our webshop or come and pick up from The Wool Boat.
Carole says “This is the first garment I’ve knitted from this James C Brett’s “Happiness” baby yarn and I’m very impressed with the yarn, it’s lovely to knit with and I can see this becoming my go to baby yarn.
We have all 10 shades in stock on the Wool Boat ready for you to knit your own garments from, £3 a ball”

Having started off the other week by posting out a Rainbow Scarf knitting kit to a lady in Swindon we are now planning to be open on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

A kit of yarn, pattern, instructions and needles to knit a Rainbow Scarf. The pattern has been designed by Carole Wareing of The Wool Boat and is a great place to start to learn to knit, with a guide to get you started, along with a pair of needles. These seven balls make up the colours of the rainbow, Red Shade no 8426, Orange Shade no 8443. Yellow Shade no 8411, Green Shade no 845 Blue 8419, Lilac shade 8431, and Purple shade 8432. Due to the differences in imaging displays the colours may not be rendered quite true but they are bright in real life. The yarn is Top Value DK from James C Brett’s which is a great value double knitting weight yarn. Each ball contains 100 gram or 290 meters/317 yards. The price for the kit is £14.50 delivered free locally.

About us
Where and when is The Wool Boat open?
The Wool Boat is based on the canal narrow boat “Emma Maye”. During the winter we are based on the Leeds and Liverpool canal in the Burscough area of Lancashire. Over the summer we cruise the inland waterways of the country. This means
we will keep this website up dated as to where and when we plan to be open.
