Whilst steam is ok on the tracks I really like to see steam on the road. A good time to find subjects is when a traction engine rally is being held and Rollers and engines are arriving or departing the rally site.

But at times the rally field is the only option…

Part of the line up of traction engines and steam rollers in the show ring at the Chipping steam fair on Sunday the 25th of May 2025.

From Lext to right, Fowler steam roller works no 16519, Tasker steam tractor no 1296, Burrell steam tractor no 3808, Aveling and Porter steam roller no 8727 and Burrell steam roller no 3535.

Wallis and Stevens Traction engine Reg no HO 6401 at Chipping


A Wallis and Stevens traction engine heads down to the show ring at the Chipping Steam fair.

This steam engine was built by Wallis and Stevens in 1925 as a steam road roller as a single cylinder 10-ton model.

She was given the works no 7830 and the registration no is HO 6401.

It is believed that the roller was converted into a road haulage tractor in 1970, but still retains its solid roller type flywheel.

The Chipping steam fair was held near the village of Chipping in Lancashire over the weekend of Sat 24th, Sun 25th & Mon 26th May 2025.

Fowler Reg no AJ 5819 works no 9271 Chipping 25.5.2025.

A Fowler Steam Traction engine, sets off across the show ground to the show ring at the Chipping Steam fair in Lancashire.

The engine was built by John Fowler and Company of Leeds in 1901 with compound cylinders, producing 7 horse power

She was given the works no 9271 and the registration no is AJ 5819.

The date is Sunday the 25th of May 2025.

Fowler HK 9843 engine no 11637 Heskin 31.5.2025.

A Steam Traction engine, a Fowler ploughing engine in the show ring at the Heskin Steam and Vintage rally on 31st of May 2025.

The engine was built by John Fowler and Company of Leeds in 1909 with compound cylinders, producing 14 horse power.

She was given the works no 11637 and the registration no is HK 9843. The engine would have worked as a pair with another one to plough a field.

The date is Saturday the 31st of May 2025.

The steam roller “Evening Star” on the road between Rufford and Holmeswood in Lancashire on the way to the “Leisure Lakes Steam and Vintage Rally”
 
This steam roller was built by Aveling and Porter in 1912 and is a single cylinder 10 ton model.
