Rather than carrying on with putting these pics in the “Latest News from The Wool Boat” we thought we’d dedicate a page to the Sunday Stitches this year, Carole and Capt Col.

Sunday Stitches 14.9.2025 Ali’s Shawl

Hi all. A bit of a different Sunday Stitches today, a lovely shawl knitted for me by a dear friend, Ali.

Ali knitted the shawl from James C Bretts Aurora and DK with Merino yarns.

We supplied the yarn from The Wool Boat, and as it was knitted for me, I’ve no pattern details, but I’m made up with it, love it and Ali for her great work.

Ali is one of the regulars at the Slipway Stitchers knit and natter group.

Sunday stitches 24.8.2025 Aurora jacket

Finished off for this week’s Sunday Stitches. A jacket knitted from a pattern that Carole bought in Greenock and has now misplaced so the garment was knitted, making the pattern up as she went along. As far as Carole can remember it looks like the garment on the pattern.

Knitted from James C Bretts “Aurora” shade AU 03.

We can supply Aurora yarn from The Wool Boat for £3.85 a 100gram ball.

Sunday stitches 17.8.2025 on the mooring

Too warm to be opening the shop today, and no mooring available in the village so stayed on our mooring. Sat on our “new” bench working on a button band, a book and a glass of rose wine, whilst waving to other passing boaters.

It’s not quite as warm as it was in the week, and there is a nice cooling breeze.

Sunday Stitches today 6.7.25. Morning all, a bit cooler today here in West Lancashire. We had planned to have The Wool Boat open in Burscough today but Col went up for the papers to find no suitable mooring. We can’t reserve a mooring. So it’ll be knitting and watching the tour de France. I’m working on the 2nd panel of a blanket for my bed. My own pattern, yarn is Top Value from Brett’s. Have a nice day everyone. Carole

Sunday Stitches 15.6.2025. The shawl I was knitting last week is completed, knitted from Swurley Wurley “Autumn Notes”, so it’s thus a Autumn Notes shawl.

Swurley Wurley Autumn Dragon tooth Shawl

A bright shades Dragon tooth shawl hand knitted aboard the narrow boat “Emma Maye” in Lancashire by Carole Wareing of Colin and Carole’s Creations.
This unique garment is an adult sized shawl knitted from Swurley Wurley yarn.
The yarn is produced by James C Brett and this is shade no SRL10, “Autumn Notes”
The garment is created from a yarn with bright shades of reds, blues, purples, yellows and greens.
The shawl is 72 inch or 180cm long and 12 inch or 30cm deep at its widest point and has about 64 dragon’s teeth.
The yarn is an acrylic one, so easy care.

Sunday Stitches 8.6.25. Morning all, a early start this week as we’re off on a jolly for a few days. Hope everyone is OK, we’ve been a bit busy recently so not had time for Sunday Stitches, but we are back again. I’m working on another of my shawls, this time from a new shade of Swurley wurley. Back aboard narrowboat Emma Maye

Sunday Stitches 18.5.2025

Following on from last week’s Sunday Stitches is the completed hat, the Pop hat. It is A cabled multi coloured beanie style that I’ve hat hand knitted aboard the narrow boat “Emma Maye” in Lancashire.

I think it has worked out quite well, knitted from British Wool yarn from the West Yorkshire Spinners ColourLab sock DK range of yarns, which contains 25% Nylon which makes for a tighter fit on the head.

The name “Pop hat” comes from the name of the shade of yarn.

There are loads of patterns out there it could be based on, the one I’m basing it on is a James Brett’s one, no jb058.

Have a great day everyone, once again it’s a lovely sunny day here on the canal. Carole

Sunday Stitches today 11th May 2025. Morning all. A bit of a experiment this one. Knitting a cabled hat from wys dk sock yarn. With the yarn having some nylon in it it could be tighter fit to the head. Loads of patterns out there it could be based on, the one l’m basing it on is a James Brett’s one, no jb058. Will post pic once it’s finished

Saturday Stitches 19.4.25. Happy Easter everyone who is celebrating it, or just the long weekend. We’ve had a couple of weekends away with not too much stitching, but back aboard Emma Maye now. I’m working on the 1st panel of a new blanket for my bed. It’s a Saturday Stitches this week as we are hoping for a busy day tomorrow when we have the shop open on the boat. If you are any where near Burscough in West Lancashire l’ll be doing Sunday Stitches live! Carole. #thewoolboat #lys #canalcrafting #knitting

Sunday Stitches today 30.3.2025 from the Parbold Village Hall Market, which has been a bit quiet, may be with it being mother’s day. Knitting a beanie hat from Party Time stripes. Carole with day off the narrowboat Emma Maye.

Sunday Stitches 23.3.2025 After a few days away, which included a hotel in St Annes-on-the-Sea last Sunday to celebrate us having met 20 years ago l’m back on the narrowboat Emma Maye. Knitting a beanie from Party Time stripes.

Sunday Stitches 9.3.25. Spring was here in West Lancashire for a day or so, chance to be on the back of Emma Maye for a photoshoot of a shawl just off the needles.

Sunday Stitches 23.2.2025

Evening all, from us here in the UK

Capt Col ‘s new scrappy stripey jumper. First outing today at Parbold market

At least the day length is starting to stretch out a bit but it has been a cold and dull week. So inspiration for this week’s Sunday Stitches is a start on a new long line jacket to keep me warm. Have a good week every one. Carole Wareing on a nice warm narrowboat on the canal near Burscough in West Lancashire. #Sundaystitches

Sunday Stitches 9.2.2025

Sunday Stitches today, another hat from Fairground yarn. Last week’s one was gifted to a friend who is feeling the cold. She is over here in UK from Australia:-)

Sunday Stitches 2.2.2025

Sunday Stitches today 2.2.25, a bit of a finishing off day today. This is a shawl in Spring green shades. Also had a hat and a pair of fingerless gloves to do. Carole aboard narrowboat Emma Maye.

Sunday Stitches 26.1.2025

Sunday Stitches 26.1.25. This is the finished hat that l was knitting from Fairground yarn for myself last week. Hope you all had a good week and didn’t get blown about too much. The boat was rocking a bit

Sunday Stitches 19.1.2025, a new hat for Carole

Morning all, no company, yet, except for Capt Col for this week’s Sunday Stitches. I’m just starting a new hat for my self. Seem to loose mine over summer. It’s amazing what you can loose on a 57ft narrowboat! I’m using another shade of Fairground this time. We are near Burscough Wharf until 3pm.

Hi all, this week’s Sunday Stitches 12.1.2025.

A bit different as l had company. A couple of ladies had a day out from Manchester to come and buy some yarn from us. As we were not busy, a cool day and the canal is still covered in ice about 2 inch thick, they stayed for a while and so Katie got her crocheting out. Thanks Katie and Charlie fir coming and find us, and going for your dinner in the Slipway.
