Needham Market V Southport FC 17.8.2024

National league north.

The longest away trip of the season, nice to have got it out of the way in lovely summer weather rather than the depths of winter.

We decided to make a week of it with it being a long drive, staying in a static caravan at Stonham Barns, about 3 miles away from Needham.

I’d been and found the ground a few days before, so had picked my parking spot, but no real problems with a crowd of just over 400.

A good few had travelled from Southport, being our first visit to Needham.

By the time I’d got there at just after 2 they had sold out of programs and didn’t have a mug for a souvenir, but got an insulated cup instead.

We went behind before half time, our long ball game not being to effective, but eventually came out as 1-2 winners with the introduction of subs making a difference. May be this was Jim Bentleys plan, tire out their defence and then but on fresh legs?

The wining goal was a bit of a unexpected one with the ball bouncing over the keeper for Procter to score into a open net.

A good result from a nice afternoon out.

Hopefully Needham will survive all the travelling un like Bishop Stortford last season as it is a nice part of the country we’ve never really explored before so would be nice to come back
